This month, I’ve decided to level up myself, by venturing into my Zone of Discomfort — Swimming & Cooking!

Since young, I’ve never learned how to swim. As a result, I developed “severe aquaphobia” (assessed by my coach) as an adult. As much as I loved the sight of waters and the colour blue, I was fearful of treading near the waters. My mind would spiral into worst-case scenarios of slipping into the waters and drowning to death.

I also never learned how to cook properly for myself. Whenever I was hungry, ordering online was my default option. Easy accessibility to a wide range of food options, delivered right to my doorstep, was simply too irresistible. However, after months of ordering similar food (invariably the options are limited), I felt so sick & tired of eating the same old boring food. Yet another tofu and rice?! Yet another overly salty and MSG-laden nonsense?! Why is anything with mushrooms priced so much more?!

Finally, I am ready to revamp my personal lifestyle, and invite positive changes into my life!

Today marks Day 9 of my practice swimming. My baby milestones to-date:

☀️Dare to step into the pool alone

☀️Swim without supervision with a kickboard & waist float

☀️Desire to train almost every day/night (even when nobody expects me to!)

Today marks two weeks of my foray into home-cooking! I even invested in a smart cooker! My baby milestones to-date:

👩🏻‍🍳3rd attempt at cooking vegetable dhal curry

👩🏻‍🍳Improving the recipe to customise to my preferences

👩🏻‍🍳1st attempt at fermenting & steaming idly (steamed rice cakes)

👩🏻‍🍳Desire to eat my own food (even with external temptations abound!!)

The Zone of Discomfort brings with it a lot of uncertainty and fear. But it is also where your next level-up awaits!
